Keystone plants are the most productive native species within an ecosystem, supporting and influencing a large number of wildlife. They are cornerstone plants within any habitat, essential building blocks that play key roles in forming a structured ecosystem that is both stable and diverse. If you’re growing a native plant garden or even just planning to add some plants with the intent to attract pollinators, introducing keystones is a good place to start and can help reduce choice overwhelm. Adding them in first ensures that you will be supporting the maximum number of insect and animal species in even the smallest space.
